Mental Health First Aid Training in the Workplace – 1 Day

course numbers: 12 maximum

Target group: Management, OHA, staff, first aiders

Course Outline

This Mental Health First Aid training course is a 1 day introduction to the concept of MHFA, including relevant legislation, the impact of Mental Health issues on the UK and UK business and an overview of the principles and practice of Mental Health First Aid.

Courses for groups can either be held at your place of work or at Kays training centre in Liverpool.  If an individual course place is required this can only be accommodated at our Liverpool training centre.

Much of this Mental Health First Aid training course will focus on the identification of individuals at risk or in a crisis, and effective short, medium and long-term intervention methods.

This full day Mental Health First Aid training course will be delivered through a mixture of interactive PowerPoint presentations, group and individual exercises, Q&A and sharing of knowledge or experiences where appropriate. We offer Mental Health First Aid training courses both online and in person.

The course is suitable for those wishing to learn more about the concept and benefits of Mental Health First Aid in the workplace. It will provide individuals with the fundamental knowledge and skills to aid those in crisis. The course can be extended to two days to include more practical exercises and bespoke elements tailored to your industry and workplace environment.

Objectives

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Define health, mental health, suicide, substance misuse, anxiety disorder, psychosis and personality disorder
  • List the main legislation which impacts provision of Mental Health First Aid in the workplace
  • Recall some of the main statistics regarding the effect of Mental Health issues on UK businesses
  • State the purpose, principles and practice of Mental Health First Aid in the workplace
  • Identify at risk individuals and those in crisis who may benefit from contact with a Mental Health First Aid trained individual
  • Communicate effectively with those in crisis
  • Design and implement a basic plan of action for individuals at risk or in crisis
  • Implement positive changes within the workplace regarding Mental Health
