Pharmacy Accuracy Checking Dispenser
The Accuracy Checking Dispenser (ACD) is responsible for performing the final accuracy check on dispensed medications before they are issued to patients, ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards.
The role supports the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred pharmaceutical services and assists the wider pharmacy team in maintaining high operational standards.
Key responsibilities:
Accuracy Checking & Dispensing:
- Perform final accuracy checks on dispensed prescriptions (excluding those requiring clinical check unless authorised).
- Ensure all dispensed items match the prescription and are appropriately labelled, packaged, and stored.
- Identify and report any dispensing discrepancies or near-misses following SOPs and incident reporting procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of checks completed in accordance with pharmacy SOPs requirements.
Operational Support:
- Assist in dispensing prescriptions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
- Maintain stock levels, ensuring medicines are stored and rotated appropriately.
- Support the pharmacist in ensuring safe and effective running of the dispensary.
- Participate in audits, stock counts, and ensure compliance with controlled drug procedures.
Customer Service & Teamwork:
- Provide professional, helpful, and courteous service to all patients and healthcare professionals.
- Work collaboratively with dispensers, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacists to maintain workflow and standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent)
- Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) or Accuracy Checking Dispenser qualification recognised by an approved awarding body.
- Minimum of 6–12 months’ experience in a dispensing role
- High attention to detail with a strong understanding of pharmacy legislation and SOPs
- Strong communication and organisational skills
Desirable:
- Experience working in a community, hospital, or integrated pharmacy setting
- Familiarity with PMR systems (e.g., ProScript, RxWeb, or equivalent)
Attention to Detail:
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is required, especially when dispensing medications and handling prescriptions.
Communication Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with customers, healthcare professionals, and colleagues.

- A friendly, approachable attitude with a genuine desire to help customers with their healthcare needs.

- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritize workload in a busy environment.
